With a brand new charity in Butterfly Sundries’ Featured Charity Spotlight, I’m also unveiling a new jewelry line: The Sirens and Sailors Collection! This cuff is one of my absolute favorites among the new designs and I’m so excited to share it with you!

When I think of tall ships, like the ones of Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority (the new Featured Charity), I think of nautical myths, sailors’ tools and stories about pirates. I guess it’s no wonder that the inspiration for this design came from images of old nautical maps. I loved the artwork of the suns, “blowing wind faces” and even the details on the compass points. I wanted to combine all of those elements into one cuff design with a lightly textured surface. I sought to find balance between fine details and a minimalistic approach to draw attention to the features.  The contrast of the three metals (red brass, yellow brass and copper) helped to visually capture the contrast of the horizon at sunset.

Creating this design to fit my muse’s inspiration was a fun and challenging endeavor; the journey was a personal triumph. (Thanks to this design I finally got over my fear of using my jeweler’s saw!) Among many other designs in the collection, you can now find this cuff on Etsy. Next up? I think I’ll explore creating a mixed media piece with tooled leather….
