I love taking something as ordinary as a piece of copper and turning it into something beautiful. In this case, my muse needed expression after a Star Wars Viewing marathon and a trip to see the related exhibit at the EMP Museum in Seattle. I took inspiration from the Star Wars movies (the design of the Death Star), lunar pictures and my love for abstract art… and this design was one of the results!
Made from copper pipe, this pendant was cut to size, hammered, torched, and formed using a technique called air chasing. Its rough edges were smoothed and after shaping it was antiqued and polished. Finally, holes were drilled and I strung it on a prefabricated copper chain, all the other connections are handmade with copper wire. From the bottom of the handmade pendant hangs a single pearl.
Copper does, of course, over time develop an attractive patina. This is part of the beauty of the material. It does have a thin protective layer of wax to protect it, but expect the other colors to develop over time.
