This one of a kind etched copper anchor pendant measures at about 2.5 inches (including the handmade bail); its width is about 1 inch. The chain length is about 18 inches, including the handmade clasp.
On a recent trip to a maritime museum, I fell in love with the design of several nautical artifacts. One particular anchor, partially covered with rope, captured the attention of my muse. This original Butterfly Sundries design soon followed!
This pendant was cut from copper sheet, shaped, and polished. The design was rendered by hand before being immersed into a acid-bath for etching. Finally, I took it out, cleaned it once more, drilled the hole for hanging, antiqued the surface and gave it its last polish. Strung on a prefabricated antiqued copper chain with a handmade clasp, all the other connections are handmade with copper wire. Copper does, of course, develop an attractive patina over time. This is part of the beauty of the material. It does have a thin protective layer of wax to protect it, but expect the beautiful patina to appear over time. (Periodic polishing will keep the patina development to a minimum.)
