Celebrate your love for history with this beautiful one-of-a-kind Etched Copper Bascinet Helmet Pendant. This beautiful necklace is an one-of-a-kind item; I couldn’t make another exactly like it if I tried. It’s original- just like you!
This abstract copper pendant is inspired by a bascinet helmet from the Middle Ages (c. 1390 – c. 1410; Milan, Italy), currently in the Wallace Collection. Part of my Knights Collection, a jewelry collection inspired by the programs of a former Butterfly Sundries’ Featured Charity: Knights of Veritas. If you’d like to learn more about their programming, please visit their website at www.KnightsofVeritas.org
This pendant was cut from 20g copper sheet, shaped, and polished. The design was drawn by hand, before being immersed into a acid-bath for etching. Finally, I took it out, cleaned it once more, drilled the hole for hanging, antiqued the surface and gave it its last polish. Strung on cotton cording with a prefabricated lobster clasp, are the other components are handmade with 18 or 20g copper wire. From beginning to end, this item is handmade with love… with all the attention you deserve!
Copper does, of course, develop an attractive patina over time. This is part of the beauty of the material. It does have a thin protective layer of wax to protect it, but expect the beautiful patina to appear over time.
The bascinet helmet measures at a little less than 2.25 inches, including the handmade bail; it’s width is a little less than 1.5 inches. The cording length is about 23 inches, including the clasp.
